Umm Salama and the Witnesses of the Household

Sayyidah Umm Salama رضي الله عنها, a Mother of the Believers, was the witness to the Hadith of the Cloak, present when the Prophet ﷺ gathered his family beneath it, and she is remembered as a keeper of the memory of Karbala. The daughters of the Prophet ﷺ — Sayyidah Zaynab, Sayyidah Ruqayyah, and Sayyidah Umm Kulthum رضي الله عنهم — bore patiently the trials of the early mission. And Sayyidah Fatima bint al-Husayn رضي الله عنها carried the lineage and the memory of Karbala forward into the next generation. Each of these women adds her light to the whole: the witness, the patient bearer of trial, the carrier of memory and lineage.
