About Prophetic Love

Prophetic Love is a Sunni Islamic resource dedicated to a single, essential truth: that love for the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ and his noble family, the ahl al-bayt is not optional, not sectarian, and not secondary. It is a Qur’ānic obligation, a prophetic command, and a pillar of the faith that every Muslim must understand and embrace.

Why Mawaddah

The word Mawaddah appears in the Qurʼān to describe a special kind of deep, affectionate, and visible love. This love is not only felt in the heart but is shown through compassion, kindness, and friendship. For Muslims, showing mawaddah for Prophet Muhammad and his family (Ahl al-Bayt) is a central part of faith, not just an extra act of devotion. This love is rooted in the Prophet’s well-known saying that a person does not truly believe until they love him more than their parents, children, and everyone else.

For Muslims, this affection also includes the Prophet’s family—his wives, children, and righteous descendants—following his clear instruction at Ghadir Khumm to honour and support them. This love is more than a feeling; it is shown by learning about their good character, regularly sending blessings upon them in daily prayers (Salawat), and trying to follow their actions and ethics (Sunnah). In the end, showing mawaddah for the Prophet and his family is seen as a sign of true faith and the main way to earn God’s love, showing a believer’s sincerity and devotion.
